​Friends of École Polytechnique launches €80M fundraising campaign in U.S.

The Friends of École Polytechnique, the American division of the École Polytechnique Foundation, is launching its second fundraising campaign with a goal of raising €80M (approx. $95M USD) over five years. This campaign specifically targets individuals and companies.

X you”: a second fundraising campaign to support École Polytechnique’s ambitions and projects

This new campaign was officially launched last November in Paris. Chaired by Xavier Huillard, École Polytechnique alumnus (class of 1973) and Vinci CEO, it will enable École Polytechnique to achieve its ambitious strategic plan and to become a global reference, by consolidating its role in fundamental research and in the resolution of high societal impact issues. The donations will help to attract the most talented French and international students and academics, to acquire leading-edge equipment and to support innovative start-ups. This campaign targets individuals – Polytechnique’s engineers, Master and Ph.D. graduates, future graduates from the Bachelor, Graduate Degree and Executive Education programs, their families, and friends of École Polytechnique – as well as companies.

The Friends of École Polytechnique will play an active role in this campaign and support the École Polytechnique Foundation to reach its goal of €80M", said Philippe Khuong-Huu (class of 1983), president of the Friends of École Polytechnique.

4 Challenges, 3 Campaign Areas and more than 20 High Societal Impact

This new fundraising campaign supports more than 20 projects addressing economic, climate, health, and safety challenges, following three campaign areas:

  • Higher Education and Research

12 teaching and research projects have been identified to be supported by the campaign, including the project “Safety and security of cyberphysic systems” which aims to position École Polytechnique as a world reference in safety and security of intelligent control systems. The Bachelor and Graduate Degree programs – which attract high-potential international students – are also part of this area as they will increase École Polytechnique’s outreach.

  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation

This second fundraising campaign will support the X-Grant program by providing scholarships and mentorship to students with a start-up project, but also the creation of a space for prototyping innovative objects with high entrepreneurial potential. This space will be open to all students, Ph.D. candidates, and entrepreneurs from the school’s accelerator or incubator.

  • Reputation and Outreach

Excellence scholarships and high-level international partnerships – through double degree agreements, joint research projects or scientific collaborations – are some of the projects identified in this area. Diversity programs that supported equal opportunities for men and women and for people with special needs have also been identified.

About the École Polytechnique Foundation

Created in 1987 by twenty leading French companies at the request of Bernard Esambert (class of 1954), the Chairman of École Polytechnique Board of Directors at the time, and with the support of the Alumni Association, the École Polytechnique Foundation builds bridges between the business world and École Polytechnique, including its students and research professors. The Foundation is a recognized public-benefit organization that works to promote École Polytechnique. This status entitles it to receive gifts and bequests from both individuals and companies. The funds raised are directed to École Polytechnique programs, facilities, students, and research professors.
